Obituary

Mario Bucci, 95, passed away at home on February 22, 2025, in Sarasota, Florida
surrounded by his loving family.
Born on October 3, 1929, in Trenton, New Jersey, Mario built a life centered around family,
community, and a deep love for food. He spent much of his career as the owner of
Carousel Luncheonette, a beloved Princeton establishment where locals gathered for
coffee, breakfast, and lunch. Mario’s omelets, homemade soups, roast beef sandwiches,
and signature pasta dishes became staples for many. Customers were an eclectic mix –
Nobel Laureates to the everyday working person. The restaurant was also a favorite haunt
of Pete Carril, the renowned Princeton University basketball coach, who could often be
found surrounded by local fans having coffee and breakfast.
After selling the Carousel in 1996, Mario took on a new role as a school bus driver for
Hillsborough Township schools. His dedication and care made him a trusted figure among
parents who relied on him to transport their children safely each day. Mario continued in
this role until officially retiring in October 2011 when he and Patricia relocated to Florida.
Mario is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Patricia (Benjamin) Bucci; and their
children son Michael, of New Jersey; daughter Katie of Sarasota and her spouse Rachel
(Crouse); three children from his previous marriage to Hope (Embley) (predeceased):
daughter Stephanie (Bowyer), son Mark, and daughter Rebecca (Capuano); granddaughter
Isabella (Capuano); and brother Edward all of New Jersey. He also leaves behind numerous
beloved nieces and nephews. Mario was predeceased by his parents, Rocco and Maria
(Carullo), as well as siblings Rachel, Anthony, William, Sara, and Alma.
Family and friends remember Mario as gentle, kind, generous—and of course—a great
cook. His warmth touched many lives through both his culinary talents and his unwavering
kindness. His five children and granddaughter were his greatest pride and joy.
A private celebration of life for family will be held on March 20, 2025, at Baldwin Funeral
Home in Sarasota, Florida. A celebration of life will also be held in New Jersey for extended
family, date, time and place to be determined.
May Mario’s memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
