Marjorie Ann (McDermott) Festa, lovingly known as “Marge,” passed away peacefully on December 10, 2024, near her home in Venice, Florida. She was 88 years old. Born in Norwalk, Connecticut, Marge was the cherished daughter of the late John and Agnes (O’Donnell) McDermott. Marge is survived by her beloved siblings: her brother John E. McDermott II and his wife Jane, and her sister and best friend, Eileen (McDermott) DeMichael. She was predeceased by her brother Thomas McDermott. In 1971, Marge married the love of her life, the late Thomas Festa. Together they built a beautiful blended family of six children. She is survived by her children: Marsha Beach and husband Jim, James Smith and wife Tina, Lisa Biehle, and Shirley Klein. She was predeceased by her son Kevin Smith and daughter Sandra Selander. Marge’s legacy also includes nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to her life. After retiring from Cadbury Schweppes in Stamford in 1999, Marge relocated to Venice, Florida, where she embraced an active and fulfilling retirement. For two decades, she dedicated herself as a volunteer at a local hospice facility, offering comfort and care to those in need. She also served as an usher at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Venice. Marge will be fondly remembered for her vibrant personality and zest for life. Known for being the life of the party, she had an infectious energy that drew people to her. Whether sharing a story or breaking into song, Marge’s warmth left an indelible mark on everyone she met. An avid bowler and golfer with a competitive spirit at cards, she also enjoyed frequent trips to the casino with her sister Eileen—moments filled with laughter and camaraderie. Above all else, Marge’s greatest joy came from spending time with her family. Her unwavering love and support created a foundation of strength for those closest to her. Her memory will forever be treasured by all who were fortunate enough to know her. A funeral service will be held on January 9th at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Church in Fairfield, Connecticut. Marge’s legacy of love and joy will continue to inspire those who knew her best. May she rest in eternal peace surrounded by light and love.
