Obituary
Marlene Joyce (Hartz) Beck, 88 of New Smyrna Beach died peacefully with her family by her side Friday, October 8, 2021. Marlene was born March 12, 1933 in Andover, OH to the late Florence and Carl Hartz. There she met and married the love of her life LaMonte Beck. They lived in Youngstown, Ohio to raise their five children. In addition to being a wife, homemaker, mother, and nana, Marlene worked at several different jobs over the years. She worked for Youngstown Sheet and Tube, she owned and operated a cigar store located in a downtown bank, and she owned and operated a convenience store. In 1985, Marlene and Monty moved to New Smyrna Beach. Marlene worked at Subs-a-Poppin’ when she first arrived and at the Dollar General on Canal Street for many years until she retired. Marlene will be remembered for her kind nature and love of her family. She was preceded in death by Monty, her husband of 64 years, infant daughter, Deborah Lynn, son-in-law, Jeffrey Alexander, and brothers Carl Hartz Jr., and Stanley “Bruce” Hartz. Marlene is survived by her children, Lary (Nancy) Beck, Colly “Tee” Alexander, Norbert “Nob” Beck, Marla “Dink” (Don) Kollar all of Ohio, and Randy (Julie) Beck of Florida; 15 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren and her brother, Melvin “Jim” Hartz of Ohio. A life celebration will be held at 6PM, Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at Baldwin Brothers Heritage Place, 1 N Causeway, New Smyrna Beach with family and friends gathering at 5:30PM.
