Obituary
Marlene (Rice) Janssen, 85, Ormond Beach, FL, passed peacefully at her home on March 1, 2021, after a four-year attempt to fully recover from a stroke. She was born in Becket, MA, the daughter of the late Charles and Agnes Rice and attended local schools. She worked at, among other places, the Becket Basket Shop and in the office of JJ Newberry’s. In 1956, she married her husband of 64 years Karl Janssen. She was a cub scout den mother and school crossing guard coordinator. Before her stroke, she was heavily involved in bowling and homeowner association activities and was elected bowler of the year for service by both the Men’s and Women’s Bowling Associations when they were separate units. She attended St. Brendan’s Church.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons, Michael (Keri) and Edward (Susan) of Oviedo FL and Eric of Ormond Beach, FL, one daughter Karlene McConnell (Hank) of Ormond Beach. FL, nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was predeceased by three brothers, Charles Rice (Margaret), James Galliher (Grace), Richard Galliher (Ruth) and two sisters, Mabel Fuller (Walter) and Eleanor Andrus (Roland).
Special thanks to Halifax Hospice and Eric and Karlene for the caregiving they gave her in her last few days with us. Marlene had a well lived life and will be missed. Service and funeral information will be announced at a later date.
