Obituary

Martha Jane Throckmorton

On April 28, 2020 Martha J. Throckmorton passed away peacefully in her sleep after a short battle with Lymphoma Cancer.

Martha was a devoted wife to her husband, John, loved her four girls Pam, Wendy, Amy and Jean, adored her 8 grandchildren, and was looking forward to the birth of her first great-granddaughter in July. She cherished her surviving sisters, Rachael Barlett and Judy Dirksen, her son-in-laws, and her many nieces and nephews, cousins and lifelong friends.

Martha loved life and made a friend everywhere she went.  She was her daughters’ biggest sports fan, a second mom to the neighborhood kids, an essential friend to invite to happy hour, and the first to help or make a meal for a friend. She made wonderful pies, and her grandkids often requested Grammy’s pie on their birthdays. Martha retired from Parkview School in Glen Ellyn, Illinois after serving as a lunch room lady, library, and health aide for nearly 30 years.

Martha had a singing voice like an angel and was part of the Ukulele group in the Stone Creek development in Ocala, Florida.  She was a member of St. Mary’s church in Huntley Illinois, and during the winter attended Blessed Trinity church in Ocala, Florida. She was a devoted Christian serving in several charities including St, Vincent DePaul, Stirrups and Strides, Brother’s Keeper and St. Mary’s meals for funerals.

Martha was an avid golfer in Ocala and Huntley. Most recently she played the best game of golf she could remember.

She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.

I am deeply saddened by Martha's passing. She was a member of St. Mary's Funeral Luncheon Ministry and was a joy to know. Maybe she have eternal peace. God Bless her family.

Mom loved going to Arlington Race track and drinking a Summer Shandy (or two) while placing a few low dollar bets. :)

John, you and your family are in my prayers. I will always remember Martha - whether it was at golf or at Thursday night dinners. And you’d have red wine and she’d have white (doubles). She was such a nice lady. I’ll miss her

I loved being Martha's lifelong friend ..... tome, an HONOR.
She will be deeply missed by me and so many others whose lives she touched.
Her Christian beliefs ... living her faith, her unconditional love for everyone, and her appreciation for Life, will live on through Jon and the girls.
My life is better because Martha shared her life with me.
You are now out of pain and resting in our Savior's arms. Go fly high on that mountain, my friend.

We will miss you Martha. Always enjoyed talking about cooking and recipes, going out with you for golf and dinner after, to the movies (Mustang!), shopping, Happy Hour. You were always so thoughtful with the gifts you brought us for us when you returned to Stone Creek in the Fall, you made the best banana bread, your pies were always where the first to go at Leisure Arts Bake Sales, you were a big help at Stirrups n' Strides cleaning the barn and the paddocks for Special Olympics, and you made the most tasteful cards. You have a special place in my heart and I will miss you, like I said. I need and emoji. Kiss, kiss.
