Obituary

Martha (Marty) Robison Noffel of Mims, FL passed away at the St. Francis hospice center in Titusville, FL on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 5 am.  Marty was a wife, mother and teacher, the loving wife of Jerry Noffel, mother of two daughters,  Alisa Laramy, Bloomington, MN and Ann Kuzinar, Mims, FL.

Marty was born at home in Keefe, TN on July 17, 1940.  At age 3 she moved to Paducah, KY, then to LaCenter, Ky where she attended elementary, junior high and high school. She graduated from Ballard County Memorial High School in 1958.  Marty went to Murray State College majoring in math and chemistry and graduated with a BS degree in 1962.  Armed with her teaching certificate she began her teaching career at  Valley High School in Louisville, KY.   Marty and Jerry met in Louisville in 1964 and married in 1965.  In 1967, Jerry was accepted into Xavier University’s MBA program in Cincinnati, OH and where Marty accepted a teaching position at Walnut Hills Middle School.  After graduation from Xavier in 1968, Jerry accepted a job in Lexington, KY and Marty took a teaching  position at a brand new school, Crawford Middle School where she worked for three years 1968 – 1971.

After teaching and having two young children, Marty took what was intended to be a hiatus from the rigors of holding two full-time jobs, teaching and raising two young children, to become a full-time mother.  After living 22 years in Lexington, the decision was made to move to Florida to be closer to Marty’s sister and her family.

Regardless of Marty’s love for her sister she would have found her way to Florida anyway.  She loved the ocean, the intermittent crashing of waves against the shoreline while sleeping or just the raw beauty of the ocean and the beach seemed to invigorate her inner passion for life.  She fell in love with New Smyrna and Florida the first time she visited in 1968. Marty never tired of the ocean and loved New Smyrna until the day she died.

Marty was also an avid genealogist. She was a member of the North Brevard Genealogy Society and held several positions including President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary.  She spent much of her time volunteering at the Titusville Public Library in Mims helping others research their family history. Marty was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) through a relative namedFlood, that she found living in 1689 through her genealogy work. Marty was a member of the Christian Church

Marty was preceded in death by her father, Wilson J. and mother, Ocie Wood Robison, LaCenter, KY and her sister Betty Robison Williamson and brother-in-law Gene Williamson, Titusville, FL and nephew, Steven Williamson, Titusville.
