Obituary

Mary Ann Lombardo, 91, of Deltona died Wednesday, November 14, 2012.  Mary was born September 12, 1921 in Salem, Ohio to the late Annie and Nicholas Hatzagan.  Mary grew up in Ohio and later moved to New York with her first husband, Peter John Gardner.  She was widowed at an early age with three daughters and expecting a fourth when her husband died.  Mary with her strong independence and perseverance raised her four daughters on her own.  She worked in retail management moving to Florida in the early 1970’s.  Mary being a single mother taught her daughter’s strength and independence, and that they could be anything they wanted to be in life.  Mary always had a wonderful sense of humor and a deep love in her heart for family.  Her Christian faith always gave her strength during the most difficult times in life and in raising her daughters as a sole parent.  Mary married Mario Lombardo on August 18, 1979 and enjoyed 33 wonderful years with Mario.  As a couple some of the most enjoyment came from volunteering at the Hospital Auxiliary and Hospice Center in Dade City, FL.  Another great pleasure Mary and Mario enjoyed together was Ballroom Dancing winning several competitions.  In 2009 they moved back to the Daytona area to be near their children.  Mary is survived by her husband, Mario; four daughters, Susan Heisler of South Daytona, Diane Sherman of Daytona Beach, Dorothy Gerber of Berlin, PA and Mary Lou Krohn of Deltona; step-son, Dennis Lombardo of Titusville; step-daughter Sandra Harlin of Walnutport, PA; 12 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and a brother, Walter Hank of Ohio.  A Life Celebration will be held at a later date.  The family requests in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to Halifax Hospice of Volusia/Flagler Care Center Orange City, FL.

I still live in the Deep Forest subdivision in Port Orange where my husband and I enjoyed many good neighborly years with Mario and Mary. They were such a cute couple, always happy and smiling. We were so sad when they moved. My sincere condolences to Mario and his family.
