Obituary

Mary Catherine Humphrey Maschinot died on September 11, 2020 in Ocala, Florida after a long and fulfilling life of commitment and devotion to her faith and family.

Born on May 5, 1938 in Covington, Kentucky, Cathy was the oldest of three children to Marie Lohman and Herman Humphrey. She spent her childhood in the company of her two younger siblings, Mary Alice Humphrey Collins and James H. Humphrey

In 1958, Cathy moved to Miami, Florida with her first husband, Dr. Clarence J. Maschinot Jr., where she started and grew her family. While in Miami, she earned her degree from Miami Dade Community College. Cathy worked as a substitute teacher while raising her three children. She later worked as the Membership Director at the American Welding Society.

Cathy spent her leisure time as a competitive tennis player and was active on several women’s tennis teams. She was also a dedicated volunteer with the Miami Chapter of the American Cancer Society.

Cathy moved to McAllen, Texas in 1982 and shortly after relocated to Silver City, New Mexico with her second husband, Ian Pliickebaum. While there, she worked at Western New Mexico University as the Assistant Director of the Fine Arts Department where she especially enjoyed mentoring university students.
She returned to South Florida in 1999 to be closer to her children and grandchildren, spending the majority of her time in Naples, Florida until moving to Ocala in 2017.

Cathy was predeceased by her parents and brother James Humphrey and is survived by sister Mary Alice Humphrey Collins, daughter Cherisa (Louis) Ledlow, and sons Mark (Dorcas) Maschinot and Craig (Tammy) Maschinot, and grandchildren Ashley (Cody) Ledlow Mayer, Michael Maschinot, Christopher Maschinot, John Todd D’Ariba, and Danielle Maschinot.

The family will hold private services and asks that, in lieu of flowers, any memorials be sent to Hospice of Marion County or the charity of the donor’s choice.
