Obituary

Mary Eileen (Mick) Sharkey, 94, died peacefully in Hospice care Monday, November 13, 2023. She was born September 21, 1929 in Cleveland, OH to John and Marie Halter. She graduated from Kent State University with a degree in education. There she met her husband Kenneth (Ken).

She had six children. She and Ken lived in various Ohio cities, before settling down for many years in North Canton, OH. They enjoyed boating and camping at Lake Atwood in Ohio. She and Ken travelled all over the world. Mick was an active woman who walked and swam into old age. When her family was grown, Ken and Mick “snowbirded” at Fort Myers Beach, FL. Later, they purchased a home in The Villages, FL, where they lived out their final years, never regretting leaving the harsh Ohio winters. Their time in The Villages was made sweeter by living 2 doors down from Ken’s brother Tom and his partner Rosemary.

Mary was preceded in death by her brothers Paul and John, a son Kevin who tragically died as a newborn, her oldest daughter, Diane (“Didi”) and her husband of 67 years, Ken. She is survived by her four remaining children: Mary Ann Sharkey, Kathleen (Kathy) Shadle, Kenneth (Ken) Sharkey, and Keith Sharkey (her youngest son, who cared for her for the last few years). She loved her 6 grandchildren and had 5 great grandchildren at the time of her passing.

A memorial mass will take place Wednesday, January 24, 2024, 10 AM, at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, 7081 SE Hwy 42, Summerfield, FL  34491.  Attendees are asked to please avoid wearing fragrances (perfume, cologne, etc.) due to family with lung conditions.  Arrangements entrusted with BALDWIN BROTHERS Funeral & Cremation Society-Spanish Springs, 352-430-1449.  Sentiments are encouraged at www.baldwincremation.com.
