Obituary

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Mary Josephine Fitzgerald Zechnowitz on February 23, 2013.  Born in Longford Ireland February 4, 1927 to Thomas and Margaret Fitzgerald (nee Brennan).  Mary grew up in New York City. After raising three children with her husband she attended nursing school at the age of 50. She graduated from DBCC in 1979 and went on to work as a nurse for 28 years. Her beautiful blue eyes, sharp Irish wit and love of life will be forever missed. She is survived by her husband and soul mate of 65 years Ira Zechnowitz, sons, David (Debbie) of De Land, Steven (Mara) of Ormond Beach and daughter Kim of Ormond Beach; four grandchildren; Amanda (Dan) Swearingen, Joshua, Jessie and Lillian Zechnowitz; great grandchildren, Matthew and Katelyn Swearingen. She also leaves behind her Earth Angles: Peter Prutsman, Jeannie Prutsman and Gail Halfhill.   Mom, we couldn’t possibly have loved you more. Thank you for your gifts of laughter, practical jokes, inspiration, knowledge and your beautiful smile. When my shoe becomes untied, I’ll know that you are thinking of me.  The Zechnowitz family is having private services.

To Roger's family, I am so sorry to hear of Roger's early paisnsg. I'm a long time friend and will miss his silliness greatly. He loved to call me here in Texas during football season and ask me how my Cowgirls were doing. He called recently when we dealt with over a dozen tornadoes to check and make sure my family and I were all right. The good Lord took him too soon. I guess another guitar player was needed up in heaven. You all are in my thoughts and prayers. Diane Steimle Szekelyhidi (Diney) P.S. I wonder if he was singing Don Mclean's, American Pie, on his way on up? He knew every word to that song and loved it.
