Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Louise Jacobson announces her passing after a prolonged battle with dementia, on Thursday, May 20, 2021, at the age of 82 years.  Mary will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Liz Jacobson, her son, John Jacobson, her brother-in-law, Raymond Jacobson, her niece, Katherine Nadine Hargrove, her niece, Angela Faye Wiggins, her nephew, Jeffrey Dana Cross, all her friends from her 22 years of teaching at Sabal Elementary School in Melbourne, Florida and friends from her church at the First Baptist Church of Eau Gallie.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Kathleen and Ednor, her loving husband of 42 years, Kenneth J. Jacobson, her second husband of 8 years, Earl Edward Lowman, her brother “Toby” (Albert John), and her sister Judy.

Mary was a native of Lake Charles, LA where she attended Fairview High School and two years at McNeese College. That is where she met and married Kenneth Jacobson. Kenneth was transferred to Orlando, Florida in 1960 for his job. He was then offered a job with the FAA at Patrick Air Force Base and they moved to Melbourne, FL in 1961. They had resided in Melbourne since then. Mary returned to school at Rollins College to get a Bachelor’s degree and various Master’s degrees in Elementary Education to become a teacher at Sabal Elementary School.  Later in her career, she got another degree to become the Media Specialist at the school. She was very active in the ADK teacher’s sorority and American Businesswoman’s Association. Mary liked to travel. She spent three months one summer in Southern China as part of a teacher’s exchange program.  She taught English to Chinese students.  After returning from that trip, she continued to tutor local Chinese students in the English language. Mary and Kenneth traveled extensively, including trips to Las Vegas, California, Utah, Colorado, Arizona, Michigan, Texas, Oklahoma, Hawaii, Mexico and various locations in Europe.

Mary will be interred at Florida Memorial Gardens in Rockledge, FL on Wednesday, May 26 at 11:00am.  There will be a private graveside service for family and a few friends at that time. Her daughter will be hosting a Celebration of Life event in Melbourne at a date and location to be announced (at some time after the Memorial Holiday weekend.)

  1. Ellen Crume says:

    Liz, John, and family,
Mary was a good friend and co-educator for many years. She and your father were a good team. There are many funny stories that make me smile when I think of Mary.
When she started selling Mary Kay, she asked if our family would be a practice for her first presentation. She came to the house, and I am sure she got more than she bargained for. The kids wanted to touch everything, and the cotton balls got stuck in my husband’s beard stubble.
Mary always had some time to share ideas or stories about her travels.
    She will be missed.
