Obituary

Mary was a beautiful, generous person who loved animals one and all. Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on May 1, 1942, to parents Lucile Getteleman and Arnold Kennenberg. Mary was an only child, highly motivated to achieve a productive, successful life. Raised in Milwaukee she attended University of Wisconsin and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in 1963. Mary found an immediate passion for TV broadcasting and started as a weather forecaster on the local TV station but soon spread her wings to an on-air anchor for a metro Boston television station.  Her ongoing interest then and for several years was the Kennedy clan. She would have many personal interviews and interactions with the Kennedy family in her role as a news correspondent. She developed an interest in the legal profession and returned to Wisconsin to attend Marquette University, was awarded a Juris Doctor and began a new career. Initially she worked for Blue Cross of Wisconsin as an attorney in the claims staff and then as Executive Attorney for Journal Communications. She met and married Edward Evans and lived in Mequon until retiring in 2000. Mary loved Golden Retrievers and had nine generations in total. She and Ed would travel, show and compete nationally in dog shows, eventually receiving an OTCH award achievement for their pup, Sunny. They relocated to Marshall, NC and after Edward’s passing in 2006, she met her dear companion, Al Seyforth, and they were inseparable for the past twelve years. They enjoyed the sights and activities of the Blue Ridge vicinity in Western North Carolina, participated in boating and traveled to Aruba. Several years ago, Mary and Al moved to sunny New Smyrna Beach, Florida, and as reclining years approached Mary still enjoyed those funny, energic Golden Retriever pups again and again. Mary eventually found quiet and restful peace with Al in the Town of Deland on a ten-acre spread with a houseful of pets and wild creatures abundant. On February 7, 2018, after a brief illness Mary passed quickly and quietly with a gorgeous smile on her face looking for her new direction and endeavor ahead.   Life Celebration will be 2:00pm Friday, February  16 at Baldwin Brothers Heritage Place 1 North Causeway New Smyrna Beach.
