Obituary

Mary Louise McColpin, of Fort Myers, FL, formerly of Rowayton, CT, died February 6, 2018.
Born October 1, 1930 in Beaumont, TX, she was 87. Mary Louise was the beloved wife and
companion of Andrew Popp, loving wife of the late Andrew McColpin, devoted mother of
Amanda and her husband Doug and John and his wife Cynthia, adoring and doting
grandmother of Helen Louise. Mary Louise was cherished by her nieces and nephews, her
many friends, young and post young, with whom she had rich, vibrant, life long relationships,
and her stepdaughters, Susan and Sarah and their families, whom she acquired, with much
delight, later in her life. Mary Louise’s love of music: forty years of piano lessons, opera at the
Met and the City, the Ring around the world, Tanglewood, Marlboro, performances of chamber
music anywhere, and her lifelong study of foreign language: German, Spanish, Italian, French,
(the NY Times crossword?), inspired and nourished her daily. A marvelous cook, gracious
hostess, indefatigable gardener, curious birder, long suffering tennis player, surprising actress
(The Turkeys!), member of the Altar Guild of St Luke’s Episcopal Church in Darien, engrossed
by her needlepoint, Mary Louise was a vivid and lively presence, thoroughly engaged in
whatever society she found herself. Her brilliance and beauty will be missed terribly by all of us
who knew her and loved her. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to ARDS
Foundation – ardsglobal.org, or to the charity of your choosing.
