Obituary

Mary Louise (Marylou) Atkinson Stawicki, age 82, beloved wife and mother of Edgewater, Florida passed away at her home on Wednesday, January 30th, 2013.  Mrs. Stawicki was born August 31st, 1930, to Frances Mary Wilson and Charles Atkinson in Port Chester, NY.  Growing up, she had a very high IQ and skipped 2 grades in Elementary School.  At age 17, Marylou was a Manager of the Old McDonalds Farm in Darien, CT for 2 years.  She also worked as a Proof Reader and Manager at Fawcett’s Publishing Company.  She married Leo John Stawicki Sr on April 19th, 1958 and had 5 children in addition to 3 from a previous marriage. She was President of the Port Chester/Rye Volunteer Ambulance Corp during the 1970’s, as well as President of the Women’s Auxiliary  f the YMCA in Port Chester.  She was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers Football team and the Orlando Magic Basketball Team.  She enjoyed dancing and singing, with Tap being her favorite style.  Marylou and her husband Leo moved to Edgewater, Florida in 1986. She was happily married for 50 years until her husband passed away in July, 2008.   She was also predeceased by her 3 brothers, Charles Atkinson, John Atkinson and Walter Lowry II, one sister, Adeline Mays Lowry and a granddaughter, Cameron Van Sant Stawicki.   She is survived by her eight children, Susan DeForest, New Smyrna Beach, FL; William DeForest, Hendersonville,TN;  Charles DeForest, Bridgeport, CT;  Lorna Maniscalco, Edgewater, FL;  Leigh Mazurak, Greenwich, CT;  Leo Stawicki Jr., Greenwich, CT; Anthony Stawicki Sr., Fairfield, CT;  and Frances Marrano, White Plains, NY; 15 grandchildren and 3 great grandsons.  A Memorial Mass is planned for Saturday, February 16th at 10am at Sacred Heart Church in Byram, CT with a gathering of friends and family immediately following at the Glenville Polish Club in Greenwich, CT.
