Obituary
Mary Beth Verret Campbell, 68, died Monday, February 11, 2019, at her home in Ormond Beach, FL. Beth, as she was known by her friends and loved ones, passed away peacefully in her sleep of an apparent heart attack.
Beth was born in Youngsville, LA, on September 20, 1950 to Ned and Lou Verret. She was the eldest of five children. She graduated from Ovey Comeaux High School in Lafayette in 1968.
A single mother, Beth, worked hard as a bookkeeper, having sacrificed her dream of being an English teacher to make sure her adored children were loved and cared for. What she could not give them in material things, she made up for in love and support, and her children are eternally grateful to her for her courage, strength and sacrifice.
Upon retiring, Beth moved to Florida to be close to her eldest daughter, Cyndi. She enjoyed reading, watching television, especially the Investigation Discovery channel of which she was a huge fan, and the Hobbit movies which she lovingly referred to as her “dwarf movies.” Further, she enjoyed spending time with loved ones and her cat, Annie, and was a fan of the New Orleans Saints. She was rightfully outraged over the controversial call (or lack thereof) that cost the Saints a trip to the Super Bowl this year.
Beth possessed a wonderful sense of humor and a sharp intelligence, but she was also kind and gentle and adored cats. She was beloved by almost everyone who was fortunate enough to know her.
She is survived by her two daughters and their spouses, Cynthia (Cyndi) and Jeffery Patterson and Christy and Kent Davidson; five grandchildren, Zachary Thibodeaux, Dakota Davidson, Jonathan Patterson, Salem Davidson and Charles Patterson; a step-granddaughter, Melissa Davidson Dale; two sisters, Ivy Verret Wyble and Suzanne Verret Boudreaux; a brother, Phillip Verret; several nieces and nephews and her cat, Annie.
Beth was preceded in death by her son, Paul Stuart Campbell, Jr.; a grandson, Robert Jeffery Patterson; both of her parents and a sister, Hope Verret Hayden.
Per her wishes, Beth’s body will be donated to science. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, February 23, at 2:00 p.m. Eastern at the home of her daughter, Cyndi, in Ormond Beach. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Beth’s name to the Volusia County Humane Society. Baldwin Brothers Funeral Home is in charge all other arrangements.
