Obituary
Mattie Shaw born September 27, 1951 in Omaha Nebraska to Theodore Hudson and Dorothy Jean Faison (name later changed to her Islamic name Hasin Bey Muhammed) The family later moved to Cleveland, Ohio where Mattie attended and graduated from Garfield Heights High School. After high school she met and dated Michael Mathis and out of that union they would welcome daughter Nichole. They would later become parents again to son Michael II.
Mattie attended Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland, Ohio where she completed her Associates degree, but she didn’t stop there. She attended Indiana Wesleyan University where she obtained her Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Business Management. Mattie always believed that you could unlock many doors with education, so she headed back to class and the Doctor of Divinity honor was bestowed upon her.
Mattie married Gerald Shaw on June 20, 1992, he would later depart this life. Mattie loved living for and talking about the Lord. She was often asked to speak at many functions and that gave her great joy. Mattie left Cleveland Ohio and moved to Florida to retire in the Sunshine. She took up residence in Grand Island where she became friends with the women and men of this amazing community; she loved it here this was truly her home. Mattie departed this life on July 4, 2022.
She leaves to mourn her daughter Nichole son Michael, grandchildren Jazmyn and Brittni, a host of family; natural and spiritual, and a multitude of friends. She will be greatly missed.
One of her favorite scriptures, there were many:
“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; And lean not unto thine on understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge HIM, and HE shall direct thy path.” Proverbs 3: 5-6.
Taken end of June, 2022. Met family at Mattie’s birthday party.

We are missing you and all the good times we shared. You will always be my “baby Sister.” No matter what, no one can ever change what we shared together. You are gone from us but our love as our sister will never die. You were always grounded, practical, and smart. Truly the cornerstone in our family. You touched thousands of people in your life helped them realize their true power and potential from within. ( I was one of those people.
