Obituary
Max Allen Smith, 97, of North Fort Myers, Florida, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 4, 2018, at Heartland Health Care Center, Fort Myers, Florida. He was born on July 6, 1920, in Springfield, Missouri, son of the late Claude and Ruby (Tracy) Smith. Max was a graduate of the Missouri Military Academy, Mexico, Missouri, and attended Southwest Missouri State Teachers College. A Veteran of the United States Army Air Corp, he served as a Pilot and Instructor Pilot during WWII. Max was Co-founder/Owner of Mono Manufacturing Company, a Lawn and Garden Equipment Manufacturing Company and also Founder/Owner of Maxa Industries, Inc., a Houseboat and Travel Trailer Manufacturing Company, both located in Springfield, Missouri. A lover of outdoor activities, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, and especially golf, taking pride in his many holes-in-one. He was also a member of the Masonic Temple. Max is survived by his daughter Patricia and her husband Carl Miller, his son David and his wife Paula Smith; his 8 grandchildren Gregory and his wife Kim Miller, Brian and his wife Haley Miller, and Tyler, Colby, Parker, Garrett, Weston and Carson Smith; and his 5 great-grandchildren Katelyn, Madison and Austin Miller, and Rylee and Bexley Miller. Max was predeceased by his beloved wife Mary (Uhr) Smith. Graveside service, with military honors, will be held at noon on Tuesday, July 24, 2018, at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 3506 North National, Springfield, Missouri.
