Obituary

Melissa Ann Cipollone, age 40, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on December 23, 2021.

She is survived by her devoted parents, Roger and Cindea Cipollone, her loving sisters Christine (Steve) Barbas, Tara (Todd) Falbo, her handsome nephews Anthony Barbas, Sam and Domenic Falbo, her godchildren Aleena and Marco Angotti, and many caring aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her beloved cat of sixteen years, Hitch (2018).

Melissa was born and raised in Rochester, New York. She graduated from Spencerport High School in the Class of 1999 and attended Finger Lakes Community College. Melissa spent time in New York City where she began her acting career in daytime soap operas. She followed her dreams to Los Angeles, California where she became a member of the Screen Actor’s Guild-AFTRA and appeared in several commercials, soap operas, and movies. Some of her work can be viewed on IMDb. Melissa worked at famous venues including Deep, Basque, Nacional, Laugh Factory, and Vanguard, where she  made lifelong friends. She was also a teacher’s assistant at Beverly Hills Playhouse where she studied acting. Her adventure continued in Stowe, Vermont where she worked for the Topnotch Resort and Idletyme Brewing Company, and helped a dear friend through her battle with cancer. Melissa’s journey led her to Florida in 2016 where she worked for the Palmer Legends Country Club up until she was diagnosed with Stage 4 Adenacarcinoma (NSCLC) at 38 years old. It was an unfair, life-changing battle from the start, but Melissa stood strong against the disease with unwavering faith and grace through the very end.

Melissa was best known for her zest for life, faith in God, obsession with Disney, fascination with Marylyn Monroe, love for Hollywood classic films, her contagious laugh, and beautiful smile. Melissa instantly connected with everyone drawn to her light. She engaged people in such a way that their lives changed by her encounter with them. She was an old soul. Genuine, one of a kind, and loyal. She loved and was loved by all of her families, including friends, coworkers, and customers.

A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Thursday, January 6th at 12:00 noon in the gardens of St. George Episcopal Church, 1250 Paige Place, The Villages, FL 32159.

A Reception will follow the service at Palmer Legends Country Club from 1:30 – 3:30 PM.

A Celebration of Life Reception in New York is scheduled for Thursday, January 13, 2022 from 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm at Ridgemont Country Club located at 3717 West Ridge Road Rochester, NY 14626.

In lieu of flowers you may make a donation in Melissa’s memory to your local animal shelter, the LUNGevity Foundation, or Lung Cancer Foundation of America (LCFA).

A special thank you to the Moffit Cancer Center, Cornerstone Hospice, and all of Melissa’s care givers.

Dear sweet Melissa, how you will be missed! We were all devastated to hear the diagnosis, and this is such a heartbreaking loss; for you were so young. Your friendship with my sister, Lily, was special, and I am so glad you found each other in California. I am grateful to have met you and for the fun times we had in California, Vegas, and Houston, when you last came to surprise Lily years ago. I will always remember your beautiful spirit and soul, your wonderful laugh and sense of humor, the kindness you showed others, your dedication to friendship, and your strength and optimism to fight and live. May you rest in peace. Wishing the family and loved ones peace and strength during this difficult time. Love always, Lena

Death is nothing at all. It does not count. I have only slipped away into the next room. Nothing has happened. Everything remains exactly as it was. I am I, and you are you, and the old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged. Whatever we were to each other, that we are still. Call me by the old familiar name. Speak of me in the easy way which you always used. Put no difference into your tone. Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow. Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes that we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me, pray for me. Let my name be ever the household word that it always was. Let it be spoken without an effort, without the ghost of a shadow upon it. Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was. There is absolute and unbroken continuity. What is this death but a negligible accident? Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am but waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just round the corner. All is well.

  36. Doris Grohuski says:
    30 Dec 2021
Dear Heavenly Father, As I look back on the first prayers I wrote for Melissa, I remember not quite understanding what was going on with her. Now I do. We are all in the same place but at different times. Almighty God, creator of heaven and earth, the seas, the sky, the birds, fish, animals of all sorts, man and woman. We are all here, just at different times. And so we too shall leave but at different times. Grant us O Father, the wisdom to live our lives as you taught us, as you taught Melissa. To live, laugh and cry and yes, greave too. Melissa had Faith in God, Love of her family and Hope of everlasting life. Only God can give us those things, and now she has found the Hope that was to be. But at a different time from us, just as we will too, at another time. It has been my pleasure praying for Melissa, she once told me she prayed more than she did before because of the prayers I wrote, and now, so do I. Rest in Peace Melissa, and we will let it begin with you. Peace be within us.

Melissa was a sweet beautiful soul who had a profound impact on all who knew and loved her. Her adventurous spirit allowed her to pack a lot of living into her short years. We will miss her forever but know she is in Heaven, struggle over, listening to grandpa Boorum play the organ
