Obituary
Melissa Elizabeth Verno, aged 45, was born in Glen Gardner, New Jersey.
After a courageous battle with cancer, she passed away on October 20th, 2024, surrounded by family and friends at her bedside.
She’s finally able to rest in peace and without pain.
Born on October 31st, 1978, Melissa was known for her infectious laughter, earning her the nickname “Giggles” among friends and family.
You always heard her laugh before seeing where the laughter was coming from and in turn, caused you to laugh right alongside her.
Being born on Halloween, she loved the holiday the most. She constantly joked that she was a pumpkin, and teased her husband that she was going to celebrate her birthday the whole month long.
Melissa’s joy was found in the simple pleasures of life.
She had a passion for sewing and stitching, which allowed her to express her creativity and skill.
Her love for the outdoors was evident in her enthusiasm for road trips with her husband, camping, and trips to the beach, often exploring new places.
A fan of cinema good, bad or otherwise, and social gatherings, Melissa cherished moments spent watching movies with her husband and going out with their close-knit group of friends trying new cuisines and finding new favorites.
Melissa leaves behind her husband, Shane Verno; her mother, Roseanna Backer; her siblings, Adam Backer and Holly Montz-Backer; her aunts, Ronnie Wisowaty, Elizabeth Kachmar, Lisa Kachmar, and Sharon Kachmar; and her uncles, Dave and John Kachmar. She is also survived by her father-in-law, Steven “Pops” Verno; sister-in-law, Davinna Backer, and Carolyn Verno; and brother-in-law, Ian Verno.
In keeping with Melissa’s wishes, there will not be a traditional memorial service.
Instead, a celebration of her life will be held as a BBQ/Potluck at a future date, honoring her memory in a festive, joyful manner as she would have wanted with tons of family and friends in attendance.
In loving memory of Melissa, a memorial fund has been established to support her family during this difficult time.
Any contributions you can make to help alleviate the financial burden of funeral expenses and medical bills will be deeply appreciated.

♥️
One of my fondest memories on when I made a trip down in April to see her. She stayed up all night waiting for me to get there.
I am blessed to be able to call you friend and honored to have you as part of our family. Fly high.... Until we meet again
