Obituary
On Thursday, July 8, 2021, Melva Richardson, devoted wife and mother of two children, passed away at the age of 80.
Melva was born on May 31, 1941 in Gauley Bridge, WV to Robert Elmer and Christina (Reinholt) Whitt. Melva grew up in the beautiful pastoral town of Lewisburg, in Greenbrier County WV. After graduating Frankford High School and moving to Washington, DC she met and married Ralph Allen Richardson in 1964. Together they raised two beautiful daughters. Melva initially worked in banking in DC, then in the funeral services industry in Maryland, before retiring to Florida in 2007.
Melva had a passion for collecting dolls, of which she had over 60, ranging from delicate porcelain and ceramic to decorative cloth materials with each one was very special to her. She loved spending time with her close friends and her family, as well as her much adored pets. She was an avid reader of mystery novels and a tremendous fan of crime dramas. She enjoyed making others laugh and had an offbeat, hilarious sense of humor.
Melva was preceded in death by her father and mother. She is survived by her loving husband Ralph; two children, Michelle Richardson and Terra Murphy; as well as her siblings: Carol Sue Whitt, Karen Whitt, Dalen Whitt, Dayton Whitt, and David Whitt, as well as numerous cousins, several adored nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be planned at a later date, details of which will be shared with friends and loved ones.
