Meredith Kilner White was born in Providence, Rhode Island on March 6th, 1939. She grew up in Cranston and graduated from Cranston High School with honors. She graduated from U. of Ct. with honors and began her Teaching career.
Merrie married her life partner Gardner “Doc” White in 1959, and they lived in East Greenwich for 40 years before moving to Ft. Myers, FL. Merrie was the first E.G. Chamber of Commerce “Greenwich Greeter,” welcoming new residents to the community.
As a member of First Baptist Church of E.G. she served on numerous boards and committees in leadership roles. Singing with many venues was a lifelong pleasure for her. Church choir, University Choir, two Theatre groups in R.I. A Touch of Music was a great outlet for her talent.
Vacations with the family were treasured. Ski trips during Winter school breaks were enjoyed by the whole family.
When we retired to Ft. Myers, we became members of Covenant Presbyterian Church and Merrie continued her commitment in leadership roles. Golf, tennis, card games, and membership in several women’s groups were an important part of her active life.
Merrie’s parents, George and Isobel Kilner, and her sister, Nancy Seavor preceded her. She is survived by her husband, Gardner “Doc” White and their children, Heather, Marshall, Stephen, and daughter in law Barbara and grandsons Nicholas (Lila), William, and Samuel White.
