What can be said about Gramps that hasen't been said. I concidered him my second father, a shoulder to cry on when things were tough, and a mentor. There is a place in me that will never be the same. I love you Gramps and I wish I could of said it when it all came to an end. Enjoy heaven and know we will all meet again. Love you Gramps

Gramps, you were my hero. I always looked up to you. The best memories I have are the ones I spent with you and Gram going up to West Carry and making trips into Pierce Pond. We always got our limit in Brook Trout when we fished the outlet to West Carry Pond. You were always there for not only me but everyone else in the Family. You will be missed. Every time I drive up the Long Falls Dam Road and see Bigelow Mountain off in the distance I will be thinking of you.

I am so sorry to hear of Merrill passing. I remember the good times when he took me to camp with Steve. Helped build the camp on Middle Carry. We had a beer or two and played 'scat'. It seems like just the other day and he will be a lifetime of memories. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

    Hi Wilma,

I was so sorry to read of Merrill's passing in Sunday's paper.

I have wonderful memories of many, many limericks that Merrill recited during the years that I worked with him in the education department at UMGP- Gorham. He was always so pleasant and so engaging, and his smile and wonderful sense of humor kept me - and others - positive.

My favorite limerick is kind of bawdy and begins,
"An ardent young couple named Kelly
Were found stuck, belly to belly...."

(You can use your imagination for the rest!)

You are in my thoughts and prayers, Wilma.

    Don

If this is the same Merrill that we met while on vacation in March, on Pompano Beach, he was the loveliest man. Stole our hearts in all of 30 seconds. If this is Merrill from that trip, we were the two women that helped him take in water when he got seperated from his daughter in the hot sun. We have a great picture of your father, and we remember our short time with him as one of our fondest memories of that trip. We had no idea he was from Maine, and were saddened to read of his passing. There are no coinisidences in life, and our meeting was meant to be. Blessings to your family. We'll remember your father with great honor. Diane & Tammy

    Gramps,
You have been such a HUGE blessing in my childhood and adult life! Whether it was tutoring me through college algebra, helping me with my taxes, taking my children to get icecream, arriving at the family gatherings with a smile and a cold beer :), and mostly believing in Mike & I's dream to open a restaurant. You are and were the definition of greatness!!!! I wasnt ready for you to go, but I know that we will meet again in His kingdom...have a cold one waiting. I love you, Em

Hi Wilma, I'm a friend of the Howards. My grandfather, Charles Hand, was assistant superintendent in Ayer, Ma at the time Merrill was superintendent in littleton. They rode together to meetings and became good friends. Merrill encouraged my grandfather to take the next step for his career in education. May God bless you and your family.

Our thoughts and prayers go with Wilma and to the extended Cobb family. We sat on the porch at West Carry and remembered all the great times from the 70's in grad school and the years afterward. As your family gathers together may they be blessed, as we have, with the memories of Mellie. We will see you all in the Fall in Lee.
