Obituary

“Michael Lee Chapman, age 67, passed away unexpectedly while playing his beloved game of racket ball on August 24, 2021.

“Mike” was born on July 9, 1954 In Huntington, WV.  After graduating from Leesburg High School, Mike joined the U.S. Army where he served honorably.  He went on to earn a degree in Education from UCF and taught History at Leesburg High School for a number of years.  Mike worked for Takis in Leesburg, happily delivering orders to the local community.  He was most proud when he became a small business owner.

Mike was passionate about sports and could often be found on a racket ball court or analyzing football stats for his multiple Fantasy Football teams. He was the definition of a true competitor and loved a good match up.

Mike was adored by his family and is survived by his wife Jody, son Robert (Holly) Holcomb, daughters Melanie Guerrero and Kathy Cates, as well as his mother, Ruth, brothers Mark and Mitchell, sisters Marian and Melody and several nephews. He also has 7 grandchildren; Heather, Micaela, Hilary, Earl, Madison, Brett, Marcel, and 7 great-grandchildren,

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Lake County Animal Shelter at 12280 CR 448, Tavares, FL 32778.

There will be a viewing and celebration of Life on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 1pm-3pm and will be held at Baldwin Brothers at 3990 SR 44 E, Unit 105, Wildwood, FL.”

I knew Mike since I was a 14 year old kid playing racquetball in Leesburg. He loved playing and would teach anyone. He talked me into playing fantasy football. He had a wonderful laugh, personality and energy to him. All around great person.

Mike was a great man. He was like a brother to me and my best friend. I shall miss him immensely. He was kind, caring, and giving; always placing the needs of others above his own. Heaven is a better place right now, but there is an emptiness down here on Earth. RIP Mike.

Mike, our 30 year friendship will never be forgotten. From our first day of working together at Take2 Pizza, working at the Orlando Sentinel to playing fantasy football. You always had a kind word, were never cross with me, and one of my greatest cheerleaders. We always had a laugh. Till one day when we meet in heaven again.
