Obituary

Michael J. (Mike) Goodwin, 82 yrs old, born Feb. 14, 1942, passed away surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness on Nov. 17, 2024 in St. James City, FL (Pine Island). Mike was the son of William L. Goodwin and Eleanor Goodwin-Foster of Clawson, MI. He was the loving husband of Mary Jane (Gosselin) Goodwin and the proud father of 6 children: Suzanne Goodwin, Elizabeth (Beth) Shanku, William L. Goodwin, John Shanku, Michael J. Goodwin and Anthony (Tony) Goodwin. He was the beloved grandfather of 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren. Mike was preceded in death by 3 of his siblings and survived by 7 sisters, many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mike was a skilled finish carpenter and was proficient in many trades. He was an avid outdoorsman and was happiest when helping family and friends. He was a long-time member of the Hillside Baptist church in Ortonville, MI. Mike enjoyed his weekly sessions reading to elementary school children in Ortonville. Mike was an active member of The First Baptist Church of Pine Island where he was a good friend to many. Mike & Mary Jane regularly visited nursing homes where they prayed and enjoyed fellowship with the residents. They also made 8 mission trips around the world.

A memorial service will be held on Friday Nov. 22, 2024 at 11am at The First Baptist Church of Pine Island. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The First Baptist Church of Pine Island or Compassion International, where Mike supported many children. The family thanks the nurses and staff of Hope Hospice in Cape Coral, FL for their loving care.
