Michael Jay Schiff April 11, 1940 – September 30, 2023 Michael Jay Schiff, a dedicated father, volunteer firefighter, IRS agent, and cherished member of the community, passed away on September 30, 2023, at the age of 83.
He was born on April 11, 1940, in Brooklyn, New York, to his loving parents, Paul Schiff and Florence (Herman) Schiff.
Michael graduated from Nova University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting, and he went on to become a respected IRS agent, using his expertise to serve his community.
Beyond his professional life, Michael was a devoted father to his children, Sherri Gail Schiff, Steven Paul Schiff, and Lydia Stutesman-Schiff.
Michael’s commitment to service extended beyond his career. He volunteered as a firefighter for over 40 years, demonstrating remarkable bravery and dedication to protecting his community. His selflessness and courage made him a beloved figure among his fellow firefighters and the community at large. In addition to his professional and firefighting endeavors, Michael had a passion for model trains, collecting them as a hobby. He was also known for his volunteer work at trade shows, where he shared his knowledge and enthusiasm with others.
Michael was an active member of the AA community for more than 25 years, offering support and guidance to those in need. He enjoyed various sports, including softball, tennis, walking, bowling, and biking, and he served as a skate guard at Sunrise Ice Skating, where he brought joy to young skaters. In the evenings, he generously shared his accounting expertise by teaching night classes.
Michael’s kindness and dedication touched the lives of countless individuals, leaving a lasting impact.
Michael is survived by his children; Sherri Gail Schiff, Steven Paul Schiff (Lydia) and the late Neil Scott Schiff.
Michael was a lover of dogs, specifically Great Danes. He will be greatly missed by his most recent rescue, Ryder.
His memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him, and his legacy of service, compassion, and devotion to family and community will forever inspire those who follow in his footsteps
