Obituary

SANFORD, FL – Michael Leo Bristol, 64, formerly of Russell, NY died peacefully in the comfort of his home in Sanford, FL surrounded by his family on January 18th, 2017.

Born on April 29, 1952 in Potsdam, NY he was the first of eight children for Leo and Ann “Esther” (Dennee) Bristol.  After graduating from Hermon-DeKalb Central School in 1970 he completed an accounting program at Powelson Business Institute.  In 1971 he began his career working the paper machines at Newton Falls Paper Mill where he worked until its final closure in 2011.  In 2014 he relocated to Sanford, FL where lived at the family stables.  He enjoyed keeping a watchful eye over the horses and donkeys and was routinely seen distributing carrots in the evening under the guise of “checking for a potential colic”.

While he enjoyed a variety of hobbies throughout his life including hunting, fishing, archery, and some amateur woodworking, he found the most enjoyment from spending time with his family.  He was extremely proud of all of the accomplishments of his children as they established themselves in their respective careers and began to create families of their own.  He is survived by his three children Michelle Bristol and her partner Ronald Koster of Russell; Megan Bristol and her fiancé Richard “Pete” Land of Lake Clear; Michael Bristol and his wife Heather of Lake Mary, FL; one grandchild Brandon Bristol of Edwards; seven siblings Carl Bristol of Canton; Carolyn Mouthrop and her husband Thomas of Canton; Rodney “Rocky” Bristol of Russell; Jeff Bristol of Potsdam; Sid Bristol and his wife Tina of Russell; Leo Bristol of Russell; Vera “Jeannie” Bristol-Randall of Oakwood, OH; his mother Ann “Esther” Stromer of Russell; and the mother of his children Ruth (Perry) Bristol.  He was predeceased by his father Leo R. Bristol.

Per his wishes no services are planned and flowers are respectfully declined.  For those wishing to make an expression of sympathy, the family would suggest that memorial contributions be made to the Moffitt Cancer Center Foundation or a cancer charity of your choice.
