Obituary

Mike “Hammer” Karpowich passed away at West Marion Hospital after a courageous battle. He fought hard to come home to his beloved wife and soulmate Gail, “hon” as he always called her. They shared 48 years of love and joy. He was born in New Jersey and moved to Dunnellon, Florida with his wife and son in 1982. They enjoyed together their love of the beautiful Rainbow River.

Mike was a member of Dunnellon Moose Lodge #2308 since 1989. He loved life, telling jokes, boating, cooking, and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycles with his wife and sharing good times with his beloved son Bill, family, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father John Karpovich Sr. and Mother Dorothy. He is survived by his wife Gail, his loving son Wilbur “Bill” Turnbach and his wife Paula, brother John Karpovich and wife Kathi, beloved mother-in-law Marge Hegedus, brother-in-law James “Gator” Hegedus and wife Marge, best friends Nick & Deb, nieces, nephews, cousins and too many friends to count.

Mike will be forever missed and remain in the hearts of those he so loved and loved him.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Mike will be missed by everyone that ever met him. I can hear him telling stupid jokes right now. He has a whole new audience. Picture a joke off with Rodney Dangerfield....that will be awesome! We love you Gail, Bill and all!

I will never forget the countless visits, jokes discussions, and most importantly the countless belly laughs. You are missed and will be remembered by the many lives and shoulds that you touched. We can't still believe that this is even real, and reminds us as how fast life can end and that we need to live it to the fullest. As we don't know what the next day brings or that the next day won't be available to us. You demonstrated that having fun is what makes someone shine and your aura did just that. You were a bright light in many and continue to do so. May you ride the endless highways in the sky where the weather is always good and the beer is always cold. Where there is no pain and no diversity and anger. Miss you much brother, until we meet again.

I am sad to hear about this loss of Mike. Although we only met once, you are like family.
