Michael Bryant Renfroe passed away peacefully on March 8, 2022. Bryant had suffered from a stroke, December 21, 2019.  For the last six months he resided in Port Orange, Fl. With his caregiver, Dr. Mae- Ellen Bailey. She made sure Bryant enjoyed the Florida sunshine and had the best of care. Also, Jenny and Doug Dwyer for taking on the responsibility of his care, after Bryant’s husband passed away August 27, 2021. Previously he resided in Southampton, New York.

Bryant had lived a full life. After graduating from S.R. Butler High School in 1972, Huntsville, Al.  Bryant went to the Scientific Beauty Academy in Huntsville Al. Where he learned his skill as a Hairstylist. He also had a Dog Grooming Business, The Master’s Lead.

Later, Bryant moved to Orlando, Fl. working as a Stylist with Regis Salon. A call from Disney World changed Bryant’s life forever.

Joan Lunden, working for ABC’s Good Morning America, needed a Stylist for the Disney Christmas Parade. Bryant was chosen from a staff of forty at the Regis Salon.

Impressed with Bryant’s talent, Bryant was called to come to New York City to work with ABC as Joan’s stylist. After working with Good Morning America until 1987, Bryant made the move to work with Kathie Lee Gifford on “Live with Kathie Lee and Regis”. Bryant’s biggest accomplishment was winning eight Emmy’s for “The View” and styling Barbara’s hair. He was excited to bring the first Emmy to Huntsville to show his family. Mellijo and Willie Renfroe, who preceded him in death.

Bryant traveled the world with Barbara Walters, until her retirement in 2014. Meeting President’s, Dignitaries, The Daila Lama, Celebrities. Visiting the Taj Mahal at Sunrise and seeing the sun set in Venezuela.

Bryant also retired, leaving New York City to move to Southampton, New York, to be with his spouse Joseph Dwyer.

Bryant got his Real Estate License and joined the Corcoran Group and started a new career. Bryant and Joseph enjoyed helping clients finding the perfect Hampton home.

I reached out to Bryant after Barbara passed away. I thought Bryant might have been featured in some of the coverage, as he was more than a hair stylist to Barbara. He was her confidante and good friend and after retirement, someone who was there for her. I am so sorry for Bryant's passing as he was a good friend to me too. I miss him. Rest in peace dear Bryant. Hopefully you are with Barbara now gossiping over some celebrity or another.

After Barbara Walters passed away I checked on Bryant and found he had passed away. I am so sad to know this. Bryant was my friend and hairstylist when he worked for Hair Benders Salon in Orlando. We became instant friends!! He was a delightful person and we laughed all the time! We had the best time together!! I moved to Michigan for a job and would fly back once a month to see him and have him cut my hair. When he met Joan Lunden at the Disney Christmas Parade he was so excited and nervous! After he moved to New York and started working for Barbara he would call me from where they had traveled to and tell me the celebrities he had met.
I will miss him. My heart is broken .

I am stunned to read that Bryant passed. I was reading all about Barbara Walters passing and wondered why I hadn’t heard any response from Bryant. I talked to him a few years back when he was doing real estate. I worked with him at GMA. So so sad to hear of his passing. Rest in peace but take care of Barbara’s hair now.

I am devastated. I loved Bryant and will always remember him as a Gentleman. I cannot remember if it was Junior High School or High School, but as soon as I got on the school bus, Bryant would always stand up to give me his seat. In recent years, after not hearing from each other in 45 years, we reconnected through Facebook. He saw a painting I did, and offered to buy it. He bought it on a Saturday night, and Sunday morning he asked me to paint a companion piece to the original painting. Later, he hired me to do a pair of wooden sculptures, that were reminiscent of a singular piece that his beloved husband, Joseph, had done when he was a youngster. I never knew if Bryant really liked my work, or if he was being a gentleman, and being kind to this single Mom of a chronically ill son. As the kind gentleman that he was, it would not surprise me, if he was worried about me financially, and he was helping me out. He was a wonderfully, sweet man, extremely handsome, multi-talented, and I will remember him as a true friend until I leave this earth. Soar with the Angels, Bryant! I loved the time I had with you.

It has taken me a week to work up something to say about the passing of Bryant Renfroe. It’s hard to sum up a life in a few words on Facebook. I won’t try. For 27 years he was there beside me for every shoot - every day of “The Barbara Walters Special”, every “10 Most Fascinating People”, every episode with BW on “The View” (Not to mention every publicity event from GMA to Letterman to ET). We were in the same business after all. We were making sure Barbara Walters looked good. He was her hairstylist, traveling companion, and confidant. We bonded over being outsiders to the NYC media world. He from Valdosta, me from OKC. We could “go country” together at the drop of a cowboy hat. He was funny and laughing with him is what I will miss the most. One of my proudest moments was when he and Joseph asked me to be Best Man at their wedding. Gay marriage had been recently legalized and we went to City Hall to tie the knot. Our driver tried to tell them that what they were doing was a sin. I’m not much of a rebel, but telling that man to mind his own business was truly gratifying and thinking of it today makes me smile. I can’t possibly piece together all Bryant meant to me. We were in this together. We made a boatload of television and we were proud of our work in the end. What more can you ask? Rest In Peace.

My sweet brother, I am so proud of the Man you became. Your will to accept all the challenges you faced the past two years is amazing. I will always cherish our childhood memories, conversations we had about the craziest things, time we spent together in Louisville, Ky. at the Dog Show, when McCoo became your new fur baby. You were so excited to show him that first time. The Broadway Plays when Daddy and I came for a visit. So many more memories. I miss you so much, but I am at peace because now you are at peace.
    I love you,
    As you would call me,

Bryant was a friend and confidant, and always made you feel singularly loved. We traveled a bit together back in the day, and he always kept calm, and kept me calm as well. This is so very sad, and I carry many great memories of him.

What a roller coaster ride this past few months have been! Beach days, Doctor’s visits, OT, PT, you really did your best trying to overcome the challenges you were dealt. We were a great team, with the support of many family and friends, especially from Jenny, Doug, Devann and Parker.

You have taught me many things Bryant about LIFE and about myself. It has been an honor to care for you. I so appreciated the way you would just light up all over whenever Baby Parker would Skype
us at bedtime so you could say good night, it warmed my heart to know you thought she was the sweetest too.

You put up a good fight, I am praying you have found the peace you were searching for.

Bryant was an original. Anyone who ever met him will never forget him. When I started working with Barbara Walters, Bryant was one of the first to call and welcome me-- I'll never forget that. Bryant had a great sense of humor and he always made everyone laugh and smile. RIP my friend, we will miss you. xo
