Obituary

Michael John Thomas, age 59, died on June 23, 2021 in Daytona Beach Shores, Fla. He was a graduate of Batavia High School, class of 1979.

Michael is survived by his parents, John and Jean Thomas, of Port Orange, FL; his daughter, Alexandra Thomas, of Edmonds, WA, and stepdaughter, Arrika Irwin, of Kansas City, MO and mother of his children, Jessica Thomas, of San Antonio, TX.; and his sisters, Karen (Michael) DuPuis of Port Orange, FL and Susan (Scott) Michels of Samsula, FL; his brother Patrick (Diana) Thomas, of Aliso Viejo, CA, and numerous neices and nephews.

Michael was born on November 29, 1961 in Rochester, New York. He graduated from Bryant Stratton College with a degree in Graphic Arts. He started his own business, Thomas & Associates, and created advertising and web sites for companies such as the Titanic Museum, the Presley’s in Branson, MO, and was an Addy award-winning graphic designer.

Michael was a quiet, caring man with a lifelong passion for nature. He was an avid outdoor photographer who loved fishing, kayaking, and hiking. His family and friends will always remember him as a talented, loving person.

The family is honoring Michael’s wishes for no funeral; his ashes will be scattered over his favorite fishing creek later this summer. The family would appreciate donations in Michael’s name be sent to Habitat for Humanity (habitat.org) or the Environmental Working Group (ewg.org).

I worked with Mike for many years - loved his dry sense of humor and point of view. His struggles although so hard to watch inspired many and opened opportunities for others also struggling to survive. I am thrilled that he is pain free and can be himself again. The angels gained a good one. My thoughts and prayers for the family

I’m so sorry for your loss. Mike had a great personality. He did a lot of graphics for Titanic which is where I met him. He will be missed.
