Obituary
Michael Wayne Whitten, known playfully as “GM,” was born on June 26, 1974, in Orlando, Florida. He passed away on October 18, 2024, in Port Orange, Florida, leaving behind a legacy of love and laughter.
A devoted father, Michael cherished spending time with his children, Abigail, Kylie and Noah. His wife, Valerie Whitten, was his partner in life, and together they created a warm and loving home. Michael was a carefree, talkative, and outgoing person whose vibrant personality touched the lives of many. His impact on those around him is immeasurable, as there are too many lives he influenced to count.
Michael grew up surfing in Cocoa Beach, spending most of his time outdoors. He loved fishing, boating, and motorcycle racing and was a history buff. He was also an avid pool player who enjoyed friendly competition and shared good times with friends. His favorite place in the world was Italy, a destination he dreamed of revisiting. Michael was known for his generosity, famously saying he would give you the shirt off his back—just don’t ask for his last cigarette. One of his favorite mottos was, “Lighten up, Frances,” a sentiment that reflected his playful spirit.
Professionally, Michael was dedicated to his work, helping to rebuild homes destroyed by disasters, making a difference in his community. He is preceded by his mother, Susan Rettell Whitten, and survived by his wife, Valerie Whitten, 3 children, Abigail, Kylie, and Noah, Aunt Renee Sigel, cousins, Spencer and Treavor Sigel, as well as a host of friends and family who will remember him fondly.
Michael Wayne Whitten will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

Until we meet again “GANGSTER MIKE” I love you little brother always ❤️
I remember all the awesome times we shared during junior high and part of high school. All the times at the beach our talks, our walks, rap music, adult beverages we shared, and all the laughter. Such great times and memories I will never forget. We shared a special bond and friendship, and you always tried to keep in touch.
No more pain and anguish for you thankfully, except for those left behind. May God, put his loving and calming arms around your family and friends during this very difficult time and grace them with internal peace, care and love.
Fly high buddy and say hi to your mama!! You will be sorely missed by everyone you came in contact with.
