Obituary

In the early evening hours of November 17, 2025, the world lost a truly remarkable man and cherished husband, brother, uncle and friend. Michael Rogers Wolford was born on July 17, 1947, in Patuxent River, MD, to Bernard G. and Eleanor Rogers Wolford.

As a “Navy brat,” Michael moved frequently with his family, living in Maryland, Norfolk, VA (twice), and Jacksonville, Sanford and Lake Alfred, FL, finally settling as an adult in Winter Park, FL.

Graduating with honors from Winter Haven High School in 1965, Michael went on to earn a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Criminology from Florida State University, where he distinguished himself as a creative leader, noteworthy student and raucous member of Pi Kappa Alpha  (Pike)) Fraternity where his Brothers remember his bigger than life persona and preference for three-piece suits.

Not long after university graduation, Michael found that his vibrant personality and persuasive manner would be better served in a Marketing career, in which he was much in demand as a trainer in the financial industry for many years.

His skills as a public speaker led to recognition in the Book of World Speakers and orating before large groups. It was as natural to him as his powerful on-stage persona, acting in many award-winning Community Theatre productions.

Michael was a much-traveled lover of life, explorer of world pubs, singer of Irish songs, weaver of humorous tales, and an extraordinary Lord of the Kitchen, creating amazing meals and memories for all lucky enough to participate.

He leaves to cherish his memory the love of his life and soulmate, Peggy, to whom he was dedicated for over 40 years. He also leaves behind his sister, Ellen (Frazier), niece, Mary Beth (Dave), nephew John (Daphne), Brother-in-Law, Danny (Sandy) and so very many friends of many years standing, all of whom will have at least one memorable story to share about their adventures with Michael.

Arrangements are being handled by Baldwin Brothers. A private celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.

I met Michael when he first did marketing training in the financial services industry. He later married my dear friend and former co-worker and had a role in introducing me to my now late husband. We enjoyed many years of shared experiences… some more “notorious” than others, but always well-seasoned with Michael’s quick wit and vast interest in all manner of things. I feel I’ve lost not just a friend, but a family member.

So very sorry to hear of Michael's passing. He was a great friend to us and was always such fun to be around. His signature is on our marriage license! He loved Peggy with everything he had and was always so proud of her. The world will miss his kind and unique soul. Our prayers are with his family and his dear Peg. Much love, Alex & Dawn de Clouet
