Obituary
Milton “Beano” Franklin Oakes, 83, of Ocala, Florida and previously Scarborough, Maine, passed away just prior to his 84th birthday having been surrounded by some of his loving family and friends in the days and weeks preceding his death.
Born to Oliver and Maude Oakes on February 26, 1934, in the town of Ashland, Maine, Milton went on to graduate from Stearns Senior High School in Millinocket, Maine. Perhaps it was at school that he acquired his quick wit, but most folks believe he came by his sense of humor naturally, as did his unique sensitivity and congeniality with anyone and everyone he met.
”Uncle Beano” was the favorite amongst the kids in the family. He loved Big Band music and loved to dance, especially the Polka! Described as, “a person who measured people”, Milton was also known for making friends for life and put everyone at ease immediately with his sunny and witty disposition and his joy for life.
Milton is predeceased by his parents, Oliver and Maude Oakes (Madore); as well as his son, Milton Scott Oakes and four brothers and four sisters.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Cynthia Anne Oakes (Skillings) of Ocala; by his brother, Robert Oakes, and his wife, Darlene; his sister, Lucille Bernier; a special niece, Karyn Oakes-Keeper, who was born on their wedding day as well as many other nieces and nephews and dear friends, all of whom shall miss him and think of him every day as the wonderful role model that he was.
In the event that a Celebration of Life is arranged in the future for Milton, it will be private and at the discretion of his family.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Legacy House, (hospice care), 3231 SW 34th Ave., Ocala, Fl 34474
