Moye L. Scruggs, Jr, 69, died on August 21, 2009, at Bert Fish Memorial Hospital, New Smyrna Beach, Florida after a brief illness.
Born in Augusta, Ga., Mr. Scruggs moved to Edgewater, FL in 2001 from Tampa. He had worked in Orlando and Tampa installing fence after serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was devoted in his love for the Corps and his "son" Salty Dog. Often just called "Scruggs" by friends and neighbors, he was happiest enjoying the freedom of being by the river eating a fish sandwich, listening to country music, tending his plants, watching TV with Salty or enjoying a beer with friends--the simple pleasures.
He leaves behind a daughter, Teresa DeKorte, grandchildren Jessica and Jonathan and a great-grandson all in Kentucky and sisters Lyndal Wolford (Lexington, SC) and La Vera Cieslak (Winter Park, FL).
Donations to the local Southeast Volusia Humane Society 200 South Glencoe Road New Smyrna Beach FL 32168 in his memory would be appreciated.
A private family memorial service is to be held in Myrtle Beach, SC in September.
Cremation arrangements by Baldwin Brothers Cremation Society.
