Obituary
Raymond DeVries, of Spanish Springs, The Villages, Florida, passed away peacefully at The Villages Hospital on Monday morning, September 20, 2021. Ray, along with his beloved wife of 36 years , Sandie DeVries (1941 – 2020), first moved to The Villages in 1998. Ray is survived by his 6 children – Kurt DeVries, Karl DeVries, Pamela Seretis, Laurie Neely, Karen Potter, Heidi Owens, one stepson – John Trolz, as well as 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Ray is also survived by his brother, Dr. Donald DeVries and his sister, Lois Weygand.
Ray was born June 20th, 1937, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the oldest of 5 children born to Fred and Anna DeVries. Ray followed his father’s footsteps into a lifelong career in the US Postal Service. Ray began his career sorting mail at the age of 19, at the age of 36, Ray was promoted to Postmaster in Traverse City, Michigan and served until his retirement in 1992 after 43 years of service.
Ray was a very active resident of The Villages for the better part of 2 decades, mostly in and around the Spanish Springs community. Ray played tennis nearly every day through age 78, as well as softball, basketball, and all varieties of social activities alongside his beloved wife and best friend, Sandie. Ray made many, many friends with his smile, witty (but often corny) sense of humor, and his easy-going character.
A Celebration of Life in honor of Ray DeVries will be held on Sunday, September 26th between the hours of 2-4 pm at Baldwin Brother Funeral Home 1008 Bichara Blvd. The Villages. Condolence may be shared at www.baldwincremation.com
