Obituary
Nancy Carol Burns Thompson, age 72, died of extended illness on August 2, 2023, in Port Orange, Florida .
Nancy is survived by her children Donald Thompson (Jennifer) of Orangeburg ,SC, Peter Thompson of Columbia, SC and Naomi Thompson of Port Orange Fla ; her grandchildren Kayden Thompson of Sumter, SC, Heather Thompson of Florence SC ,and Bryson Thompson of Orangeburg SC(Don &Jennifer), Aaron Thompson (Pete) and Seth Thompson( Naomi) She is preceded in death by her husband, Dale “Tom” Thompson, of Columbia SC; her sister, Elizabeth ”Betty” Lanning, of Orangeburg SC.
Nancy was born on April 9,1951 in Vermont, to parents Frank and Edna Burns. Nancy moved to Florida as a teen with her mother and sister Helen. She worked in the Food and Beverage Industry for many years before taking a job with Publix in the Deli Bakery. She worked with Publix in Florida and South Carolina for many years before retiring in Florida.
Nancy was a hardworking woman, wife, mother and friend. She married Tom Thompson in Florida and they raised Don, Pete. And Naomi together.
Nancy was a social, active woman who was deeply involved in spending time with her grandchildren, family, friends for the majority of her life. She enjoyed playing cards, being with family during the holidays. Her family and friends will always remember her as a generous woman, always looked out for others, or was ready to lend a hand or roof to any person in need.
A private remembrance with close family will be held at later date. The family would like to thank Helen and Paul Nelson for always being there for Nancy and us during her time of need, doctors appointments, hospital visits, keeping us updated, working on her home.
