Naomi grew up in Providence, Rhode Island, where she later met her husband Robert “Joe” Chandler who was serving in the U.S Navy. They met on a double date, set up by her twin sister, and she said, “the rest was history”. Robert knew she was the one because “she was the nicest and most caring person” he had ever met. Robert joked that he had to go all the way to Rhode Island to find her. Always loving, respectful, and affectionate, their marriage was worthy of admiration. Throughout their 86 years of marriage, Mimi and joe had 5 children who lived in many places, some of which include Abaco, Bahamas; Temperance, Michigan; and Hoxeyville, Michigan. In 2013, they decided to leave the snow behind and live full time in Lake Suzy, FL.
Naomi was known to be the most kindhearted, caring, and passionate person. She welcomed everyone and took a genuine interest in those she met. She had a unique ability to make everyone feel comfortable and accepted by getting to know and taking an interest in everyone’s individual characteristics and passions. She was known for hosting gatherings with family and friends throughout her life at the family cottage, and at their home. Naomi loved knitting, playing cards, daily crossword puzzles, and had an incredible talent for cooking and baking. She always found a way to keep in touch with family and friends through handwritten letters, e-mail, and social media. Always a voracious reader, she passed down her love of reading to her children and grandchildren. She was exceptionally generous and loved those around her deeply.
Naomi is survived by her husband Robert; their children Bill (Steve), Chandler, Marianne (Steve) Moore, Susan (Jerry) Stevenson, and Carla (Tim) Schmidt; twin sister Carla Rattenni, brother Edward (Gloria) McBride, and brother and sisters-in-law, Pete (Sharon) Chandler, Dianne Chandler, Linda (Don) Lund.
