Obituary

Neil A. Yesu, 88, of Fort Myers, FL passed away Monday, August 21, 2023. He was born January 4, 1935, in Brooklyn, NY to Pasquale and Anna M. (née Nappi) Yesu. He was raised in Sprinfield, Massachusetts. He attended seminary and when he changed course he served in Korea with the army. Neil and Diane moved to Fort Myers, Florida after retirement. They never missed the cold weather.

He was at heart an educator. He taught English, became the Principal of Classical High School and then Principal of the newly built Springfield Central High School. He loved being with friends, watching hockey, listening to music, kayaking, traveling the world, playing bridge at Cross Creek Country Club, and making pizzas. He took on many leadership roles in the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Fort Myers but never sang in the choir.

Neil is survived by his wife of thirty-eight years Diane Buckley as well as other family members he deeply loved.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Neil A. Yesu are suggested to: Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Fort Myers, 13411 Shire Lane, Fort Myers FL 33912 or Hope Parkinson Program, 9479 Healthpark Circle, Fort Myers FL 33908.

  1. Rose Yesu says:
    02 Sep 2023
Neil, my brother, lived a full, rich life. Neil had a keen intellect and sharp wit, loved learning, was a skilled teacher and administrator, was committed to social justice and championed the most vulnerable. After leaving the Stigmatine Seminary, he did a tour of duty on the South Korean border. Then, completed undergraduate and graduate work in literature and education and began a long, successful career in education as a classroom teacher and then principal of Springfield's Classical High School and Central High School. His five children and thirteen grandchildren will carry on his legacy. May Neil now rest in peace and may his memory be a blessing to all.
