Nellie Hopkins, 100 of Rockledge formerly of New Smyrna Beach died Tuesday, April 19, 2010 with her daughter by her side. Nellie was born June 27, 1910 in Yorkshire, England. She came to the United States as a child with family and was raised in Rhode Island. She and her husband Lester raised cattle in Arcadia, FL for many years where she had a pet bull “Ferdinand”. Nellie was a member of Bella Vista Baptist Church, New Smyrna Beach where she was active in many church groups and activities. She could always been found in the kitchen cooking one of her many famous dishes or knitting and quilting a beautiful heirloom for family and friends. Nellie loved her animals big and small and had the gift of music. Her family will remember her for her stubbornness at times, delicious meals, and the lessons she taught them.
Nellie was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Lester L. Hopkins. She is survived by her children, Mae Collins, Oak Hill, FL, Mildred Britt, Rockledge, FL, Susan Hall, Titusville, Fl and Frederick Hopkins, Nocottee, FL; ten grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren.
A life celebration will be held 2:00PM, Saturday, April 23, 2011 at Baldwin Brothers Heritage Place, 1 N. Causeway, New Smyrna Beach.
A memorial service will held 11:00am, Saturday, April 30th at the Rockledge Presbyterian Church, Rockledge.
Friends are invited to gather beginning at 1:00PM to share stories of Nellie with the family.
Interment will follow at the service at Sea Pines Memorial Gardens, Edgewater.
