So very sorry for your great loss. Thank you for letting me get to know Chip over this last year. He made many fast friends here, and truly is missed. As I said before, to know Chip is to love Chip! He always would bring a smile to our faces, and on his good days, have some jokes to share with staff and cars to discuss with Dr. Wehman! He touched everyone that was blessed enough to be a part of his life. Praying peace over each of you as you take each new day as it comes in this difficult time. Chip was such a blessing and will not be forgotten.
Love the Valdes family,
Carlos, Ashley & Iliana
Another memory is later when my family moved to North Carolina in the mountains. Kathy and Chip came to visit many times. One such time they wanted to go up to Mt. Mitchell ( a very steep climb for their old car (Monte Carlo). My two sons Joseph and Ephraim went with them to ride to the mountain. The weather was clear and sunny at my house with no snow. They didn't quite make it to the top when the car overheated badly and Chip had to pull over.He raised the hood and said"we need water quick". The boys said we have no water but snow and Chip said lets go for it! They boys were wearing their WWII helmets and took off to fill them with snow. Chip filled the radiator with the snow and it started to cool the car down. Was not long and on the road again.
Chip was the best Uncle for Joseph and Ephraim. He shared and influenced them in many ways. Chip was happy with who he was and did not listen to others to change his mind. They memory of Chip puts me in mind of Joseph (my son) if broke down on the side of the road will use a twisty tie to get it going again. Ephraim (my son, Joseph"s brother) if he needs a part or something and can't get it, then being a machinist as Chip was he would make it. They both (like Chip) read much and learned a lot.
Chip left us with memories, here are a few, There was a time we lived in Orlando. Kathy and I thought we needed a Santa Claus. Chip was not crazy about the idea but Kathy convinced Chip to play the part for the kids, hers, mine and cousins. Kathy got the costume and Chip went to red barn and out he comes pulling a red wagon with a big bag of toys singing HO! HO!(he later complained that a puppy wouldn't let go of his pants). We were all on the back porch with the kids(of course the adults were laughing as Santa came in).The kids were shocked, but one little girl had her doubts the whole time. Of course that little girl was Chips own daughter Jennifer. Chip you were and are still a blessing in our and so many lives.
I’m glad you were able to have one last ride in your old truck. My driving may have scared you, but I wanted you to know that I’ll take her of her now. Love you and miss you everyday.
He always had to get a map or brochure from everywhere he went. He would study that map until he had it memorized and then try to find his way through a city or area based on his memory of that map. --trips through Asheville NC taking Kathy to Sassy Cats, or other antique/fleamarkets---
Secondly,,, While enroute back to our house on Cherry Mtn one evening, Chip, Captain of his faithful ship the-Monte Carlo was attempting to keep up with Mom(-Linda-Kathy's sister) in the truck ahead of us. Myself, brother-Ephraim, and cousin Jennifer where captive of the Monte's backseat when Chip turned into the driveway and let out the cry,,, "hang on kids its time for the Backwoods Boogie" as he headed off into the timber on that one lane gravel driveway. As he rounded the first curve of this moonshine rut of a road, he slid the right side into the ditch. Kathy let out a shriek of disapproval as tree branches slapped the windshield, "Chip !!! Slow down your scaring the kids!!" Ephraim and I replied from the back seat,, "Naw, Ma does it all the time". From that day forward there was a sign nailed to a tree at the start of the timber that read, "Backwoods Boogie, 55 Hillbilly MPH"
Thanks Chip,,,, For the good times.
