Obituary

Norma Eileen Goodier, known to her loved ones as Omi, passed away on November 11, 2023, at the age of 94 in Venice, Florida.  Norma was born on August 23, 1929, in Galveston, Indiana, to her parents Clifford and Velma Lindsay.  She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings Don Lindsay, Rex Lindsay, and Max Lindsay, daughter-in-law Ronda Goodier and son-in-law Charles Gutenkunst.  Norma is survived by her sisters Nita Salmons (Bill) and Ann Zadra, as well as her children Deeann Gutenkunst, Ronn Goodier (Nancy), Jay Goodier, Marc Goodier (Tonya), and Lee Zoller (John).  She was a loving grandmother to Hans Seeger (Lisa), Jace Goodier (Ashley), Micah Goodier (Carissa), Emily Cooper (Jesse), David Goodier, Amber Gaskins (Bryan), and Natalie Zoller.  Norma also had several great-grandchildren she adored including Parker Chambers (Holly), Spencer Chambers, Abigail Chambers, Isaiah Gaskins, and Scottie Goodier, great-grandnieces Myra and Laurel Weicht and her special longtime friend Libby Comerford.

Norma graduated from Galveston High School in 1947.  After her children were grown and on their own, Norma attended Wright Beauty College and obtained her nail tech license.

Throughout her career, Norma displayed remarkable dedication and versatility.  She was co-owner of Thomas and Goodier Funeral Home and managed John Thomas Furniture store in Galveston, Indiana, all while raising her five children.  After the sale of the businesses, she moved to Kokomo, Indiana, where she embarked on a new venture at JC Penney’s, dressing the windows.  Norma then pursued her passion for beauty by working as receptionist at Wrights Beauty Salon and Dress Shop for her dear friends Martin Wagner and Bill Wright.  Later, she worked for Dr. Clifford Williamson OD for 16 years.  After retirement, Norma continued to contribute to her community by working as an aide for Kokomo Center Schools.  In 2019, she relocated to Venice, Florida, where she resided with her son Marc and daughter-in-law Tonya Goodier, who provided exceptional care during her final years.

She battled diabetes for 45 plus years and was a serious walker/exerciser who adhered to a disciplined diet to keep the disease in check.  Her discipline paid off as she suffered virtually no side effects until passing.  She was told repeatedly by her doctors, “Norma you’ve won the war.”  In her spare time, Norma was a ferocious reader, immersing herself in books.

No services are planned at this time, there will be a celebration of life gathering later.  Norma Eileen Goodier will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched. Her legacy of dedication, resilience, sense of humor and love will continue to inspire those who knew her.

Baldwin Brothers of Venice is honored to serve the Goodier family.
