Obituary

Ottis Lester Rawl “Nudge” Norris, age 93, of New Smyrna Beach, Fl passed away on January 5, 2018 under the care of Haven Hospice of Lake City, Fl. Ottis is preceded in death by his wife , Willine, three sons, Perry, Buddy and David Norris, parents Hiram and Emma, 11 siblings and 2 grandsons. He is survived by his daughter, Shirley(James) Bennett, 10 grandchildren – Chris, Ann, Lea, Yvette, Cassandra, Danielle, Adam, Jennifer, Pamela & Olivia, 18 great grandchildren , 1 great great grandchild and other family members.

He was one of 12 kids. He had 6 brothers and 5 sisters and is the last one of his immediate family. A long time Floridian, he was born in Live Oak Florida, but lived several places in the state. He settled in NSB where he and his wife raised their family. After serving in the marines during WWII, and was honorably discharged, he married Dorothy Willine
Pellicer of Bunnell Florida. They had 3 sons and 1 daughter. A long time member of the First Baptist church of NSB. He was a block & brick mason by trade and built many homes, schools,businesses & churches in the state and local area, including the old brick First Baptist Church of NSB. He was known for his beautiful fireplaces, of which he was quite proud. He was an avid freshwater fisherman and hunter. He trained many a bird dog for himself and others. He enjoyed gardening and tending his orange trees and grapevines. He was a true “Florida Boy” and often said ” let me get out there in that good Florida sunshine”. Nudge will be missed by many family members and friends!

A celebration of Nudge’s life will be held on Saturday, January 13, at First Baptist Church of New Smyrna Beach, 200 Faulkner St., New Smyrna. His visitation starting at 9 am, followed by his service at 10 am. Graveside service with military honors will follow, at the Edgewater-New Smyrna Cemetery, 700 South Ridgewood Ave., Edgewater, Fl.
