Patricia was born on March 15, 1940, in Syracuse NY to Daniel T. McCartney and Josephine O’Brien. In 1958 she graduated from Saint Louis high school in Staten Island, afterwards went on to graduate from Katherine Gibbs Secretary College. She spent 30 years in the secretary field, starting off joining her father (Daniel T. McCartney) working at IBM. She worked more than twenty years for the State of New York. She spent seven years working directly for Governor Mario Cuomo as his executive secretary, where she was thought highly of for her shorthand/stenography writing expertise. Due to her unique expertise, she was Governor Mario Cuomo’s “go-to” secretary for writing his speeches as Governor of New York. She was immensely proud of her public service, she was elected three times to the Troy City School District Board of Education, including one term as President.
Patricia was also an artist and singer, as a kid she would sing on the local radio show and has a large following in the paper doll community with her famous drawings after her two daughters (Marketa and Sheila). She had a kind heart, cared deeply for all animals, and especially loved the company of her cats, Lilly and Riley, and her dog Finnegan. Family will hold a life celebration in Troy NY for relatives and friends, date to be determined, to celebrate Patricia’s life and memory. In lieu of flowers, please donate in memory of Patricia O’Rourke, to the March of Dimes.
