Obituary

Paul Denis Kuehner, DO, was taken to Heaven by angel’s wings on Thursday, January 27, 2022. On September 16, 1939, Denis was born in Binghamton, NY, to Paul Kuehner and Mary Snyder Kuehner as the first of four children. His siblings, who predeceased him, include Philip Kuehner, Marie Bendert, and Gary Kuehner. On January 7, 1961, he married Patricia Ann Wells of Vestal, NY. Their children include Rick Kuehner, Kathleen Heaton, Kristine Latimer, and Karen Logan. His wife preceded him to Heaven in 1995. Denis’s family was expanded to add two stepchildren in subsequent years: Stephanie Shapiro and Kristen Pringle. His grandchildren, through Kathleen, include Patricia, Kristen, Kathryn, and Kyle Heaton. Through Kristine, his grandchildren include Lily and Laura Latimer and great-grandchild Maxwell Barba.

With a goal to be a medical doctor, Denis graduated from King’s College and the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He began his family medical practice in 1966 in Orefield, PA, at the Orefield Medical Center, where he practiced for over 30 years. He later relocated to Sanibel Island, FL, where he continued to practice at San Cap Medical Center until his passing. He was the consummate community doctor and loved taking care of generations of families. Denis never wanted to retire, and God granted him this gift. All those who have had the joy of knowing him well know that being in the great outdoors was his other lifelong passion.

The family asks if anyone would like to donate in Denis’s memory to consider Hope Hospice, Fort Myers, FL (hopehcs.org), the center that took attentive care of him during his final days, or St. Isabel Catholic Church in Sanibel, FL (saintisabel.org), that celebrated his life with a Mass with his family in attendance.

So sad to hear about Dr. Kuehner's passing. He was my parents go too for everything physician when they lived in Sanibel. My fondest memory is the time my husband hooked himself in the head while beach fishing. We rushed over to Dr. Kuehner's office, and he said, "this is probably going to be the biggest catch of your life" He removed the hook, handed it to my husband for a souvenir along with a tetanus shot and wished him better luck.
    RIP Dr. Kuehner

Doc was my 2nd Doctor in my 72 years of life up until he moved to sunny Florida. He guided me through life and was a friend and a special person. He was what you think of when you think of the Doctors of yesteryear that would always be there whenever you needed him. While I have another special Doctor for family care he will always be special to me and will be missed by many. May God take care of you the way you cared for many!

I just heard the news today. This is a major loss to many people and patients who respected and loved him dearly. He was a great friend and personal Physician for many, many years. I will miss him and our conversations on a multitude of subjects.

Rest in Peace. You will be missed.

Dr. Denis Kuehner was my trusted physician and friend, a true family doctor in the old time and best sense of that term. He was brilliant, insightful, a straight shooter in every way, and he had a savvy sense of humor that never chided, but embraced in the kindest of ways. I was lucky enough to see him a week or so before he passed, and I'm very glad I repeated what I had told him many times before: He was a great asset to Sanibel Island, and a blessing to all who knew him. Denis was a rarity -- a truly good and decent, rational man. Randy Wayne White, Sanibel Island, February, 2022

He was one of a kind. I traveled to Sanibel because he was the only doctor I trusted. He was always so supportive when I was so sick and when I was taking care of my dad. he gave great bear hugs. I will miss him terribly and will never forget him. God bless him. I know he now is in Gods kingdom. Thank you Doc, for everything you did for me. You will live in my heart Forever.

Denis was more then just our Doctor. He took our son Richard pig hunting a few times. They both had a blast. He took care of us for 27 years and it was always a pleasure catching up . Rest In Peace Doc. You were loved by so many and will be missed greatly.
