Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Paul Rowland, The Villages, FL (formerly Scottsville, Canandaigua and Victor, NY) announces his passing on January 24, 2022 at the age of 76 after a long battle with prostate cancer.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sue (Knitter), daughters Kerry Kilroy (Matt) and Wendy Reynoso, David Reynoso, brothers Ivan Clark Rowland and Doug Rowland (Carol), brother-in-law Chuck Knitter (Jill), grandchildren Davíd Reynoso, Sofie Reynoso, Herbie Kilroy and Laura Kilroy.  He is also survived by his loving nieces and nephews – Todd Rowland (Julene), Kristen Bevins (Jay), Jeremy Rowland (Mel), Ian Rowland (Lee), Laura Crawford (Jeff), Paul Rowland, Ashley Knitter, Leanne Knitter, and Kevin Knitter.

Paul was predeceased by his parents Ivan Clark Rowland and Verna Rowland, and his brother and sister-in-law Gary and Carole Rowland, and sister-in-law Toi Rowland.

Paul was born in Henrietta, NY in 1945 and graduated from Rush-Henrietta High School in 1963. Upon graduation, Paul enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. During his service he was stationed in San Antonio, TX and Thailand. After being discharged from the Air Force, Paul returned to Rochester where he began his 27-year career at Eastman Kodak. Paul and Sue were married in 1970 and moved to Scottsville, NY to begin their family and raise their two daughters. After Kodak, Paul worked at K & H Precision Products until retiring to move to The Villages, FL where he enjoyed playing golf, riding around in their golf cart, and making many new friends, as well as getting together with lifelong friends from the Rochester area. Paul, also known as Wally, to many of his friends, had a love for all things nature, gardening, camping and fishing, baking bread and searching for new recipes, and playing cards. Paul was a bluebird caretaker, bird and pet fanatic, and stargazer. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his ability to spin puns, and his “Wally”  handshake. Above all, Paul will be remembered for his love of his family and friends.

Services were held in The Villages, FL with a Celebration of Life gathering to be scheduled in the Rochester area in the spring.  A scholarship fund has been set up in Paul’s name to be given to a high school senior athlete at The Villages Charter School for the 2021-22 school year. Paul loved following and supporting the local Villages High School  (“The Buffalo”) sports events including the basketball, football and baseball teams.  To make a contribution to this scholarship please send a check to:  VCS Central Office, 350 Tatonka Terrace, The Villages, FL  32162.  Checks should be made payable to:  Buffalo Scholarship Foundation.  In the memo section of your check please note:  Paul E. Rowland Scholarship. There will be a ceremony in May at The Villages School to award this scholarship. (Unfortunately online donations cannot be earmarked specifically for Paul)
