Obituary
Paula Marie Freeman, 70, of Windsor Heights, IA, passed away on December 3rd, 2022, in Ormond Beach, FL. A celebration of life will be held at a future date in Iowa.
Paula was born on September 26th, 1952, in Humboldt, Iowa to Harold and Gladys McBurney. In 1958 her beloved best friend and sister Barb was born. Growing up on the family’s century farm provided wonderful experiences that provided them both values that endured through their lives. As an adult, Paula advanced professionally while working for the State of Iowa for 30 years in the Agency now known as Workforce Development before retiring. Many of her lifelong friendships were developed during her career. The most significant of these occurred when Paula met Dick (Richard) Freeman, her future husband. The two shared a loving, fun filled adventurist life from then on. Their marriage took place on New Year’s Eve December 31st, 1998.
Over the years, Paula enjoyed tending to her plants and flowers, home crafts and home decorating for the seasons at her home in Windsor Heights. Paula attended or watched a variety of sporting events. Her favorites were football and NASCAR. Paula was also an avid reader. Often reading as many as two or three novels in a weeks’ time. Dick and Paula established a second home in Ormond Beach and spent many months there during each year enjoying the beach, sharing fun adventures with Florida friends, attending art fairs, and spending time with friends and family visits. When the couple were not in Florida or Iowa they were likely traveling or on a cruise! Paula’s ability to host a party, make beautiful cakes, carve a Halloween pumpkin, and light up a room with her fun jewelry and fashion will be missed. But nothing will be missed more than her smile, positive spirit and ability to make everyone feel loved and welcome. Paula cherished her family and friends, who miss her deeply.
Paula was preceded in death by her mother, father and sister.
Paula is survived by her husband Richard, stepdaughter McKenzie (Victor), stepsons Warren (Tricia) and Spencer and six grandchildren. As well as her niece Megan Hart of Humboldt who was more like a daughter than a niece and her two sons.
