Obituary

Pervis Wayne Miller
February 17, 1945 – August 29, 2021
Wayne, as he was known to his family, was a beloved husband to his wife Winona, a loving father to their daughter Kristi, and was adored by his Airedale terrier, Valen.
Being a cowboy at heart, he normally rose early to watch the sunrise as he appreciated nature and all of God’s creation. He liked to photograph birds and flowers, especially hummingbirds and Texas bluebonnets. His relaxation time was often spent drawing and sketching, but he loved to also read and study history as it related to the world.
Traveling was a family affair, covering all fifty states and five continents. Although he enjoyed flying, his favorite modes of transportation were his corvette or his Chevy truck.
His family and friends recognized his dry wit, which was only surpassed by his loyalty to them. In his down-to-earth manner he always had a story or experience to share. He loved helping people see the best in themselves, and during his dedicated career with the Frisco, Missouri Pacific, CSX, and Union Pacific Railroads he influenced many lives.
He honorably served his country six years in the US Navy as a Seabee and UDT on Midway Island, the Philippines and Vietnam.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a memorial donation be made to:

Pervis Wayne was one in a million! I could banter with him for hours on classic cars...always conceding to his incredible knowledge. He was a true friend and his loss has left a deep space in our hearts and our lives.
I've only known you a few years Pervis, but those years a truly memorable.

This is Steve Slattery, I called to express my condolences regarding P.W.’s passing, and got disconnected. I pray that you and your family can this time, and he puts people in your life to ease your burdens. I pray also for PW, and that God blesses him.
    Some of my favorite memories:
    1. When he would test you by telling only you a rumor in the shop, and he would see if it come back to him.
    2. On third shift at North Platte, we were having some issues at the service track, and I looked up, and there is PW standing in his bib overalls.
    3. Taking me under his wing. He always treated me as a son. I will always appreciate that.
    4. He saved my career several times. I could never thank him enough.
    5. To date, I still think about what PW would do.
Thanks again for being apart of my life.

Yep, that truly is Wayne! Dry wit. He and Bill would Face Time all the time and they included Winona and me in their teasing us wives. They had such a great time visiting with each other. As well, we wives thoroughly enjoyed watching the two tell stories that they had told to each other over and over. They have sharp memories and respect for each other that lasts into eternity. What a great reunion they will have when meet again. I love Wayne and Winona and look forward to getting to know and love Kristi. Blessings for our friends-family. We miss him sorely.

Excellently written obituary! I was one of those he helped during my career with the Union Pacific Railroad. The worst butt chewing I ever received was from Pervis not because of a failure at work but because I put work ahead of family. I will always be indebted to him for taking a chance on me when no one else would. Enjoy your seat next to the King brother Pervis!
