Obituary

It is with great sadness to announce that Peter C. Corio passed  away peacefully  at 5:15 am on December 29, 2018 after  a year long battle with cancer.  He was  born in Providence, RI  on November 18, 1937 to Louise (nee Pastine) and Peter Corio, Sr. and was the eldest of three children.

As a boy he developed a passion for baseball and  won many awards for outstanding play as catcher and hitter.  He was a huge NY Yankee fan and in his high school years, he had the opportunity to play with their A team during spring training.  Peter graduated from Johnson & Wales University  majoring in accounting and business  and continued studies in computer technology at Northeastern and IBM.

Peter had a long, successful executive career in the retail industry, beginning with a promotion to Divisional Controller for Jewel Tea Company, EVP at J. Homestock (division of Macy’s),  President of Mangurians Furniture, Divisional Gen Mgr. Rowe Furniture, President/Owner Specialty Store Distributors, EVP/CIO Jennifer Convertibles and business consultant.

In 2006 Peter and his wife, Phyllis, retired to Bonita Springs and became residents at Palmira Golf & CC, where he became very active in the community and was elected the first president of the Master Homeowners  Assoc. and later Vice President of the Golf Club at Palmira.  He was one of the key individuals who brought the Palmira golf club  out of a financial crises that would have closed the club during the real estate downturn.

Peter loved living in sunny Florida and was an avid golfer, having achieved five hole-in-one awards.  He also liked to travel,  cruising was his favorite, and enjoyed reading.  He is survived by his wife Phyllis, two sons Stephen and William, granddaughter Angela and brother Ron Corio.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his name to help cancer patients or help find a cancer cure, would be appreciated:  Joanne’s House, Hope Hospice, 27200 Imperial Pkwy, Bonita Springs, FL 34135 or Cancer Research Institute, 29 Broadway 4th Fl., NY, NY 10006-3111.
