Obituary

Peter (Pete) Frederick Sammons (87) originally from Kingston, New York died on November 2, 2024 at Hospice House in Tavares, Florida after an 18-year battle with cancer. Pete was born September 18, 1937 in Kingston, New York to Edwin and Janet (Rich) Sammons. He retired to Water Oak Country Club Estates in 2014 where he fished on a daily basis. He was a hunter, fisherman, and champion woodsman competitor throughout his life. He was a companion dog trainer with the American Kennel Club and served as president of the Ulster County Dog Training Club. He bred and raised many black and chocolate labs. Pete was a member of several Rod & Gun Clubs. He had many close friends in New York and Florida with whom he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and socializing. Pete is survived by his brother, Edwin H. Sammons, Jr. (New York); former wife Arlene (VanAlen Sammons) Kerans; his children Belinda K. (Sammons) Ripa and David Alberti (Florida), Cynthia J. Ruiz and Patrick T. Ruiz (Florida), Kim E. Sammons (Massachusetts), Peter D. Sammons and Beth O’Callaghan Guinn (Florida); grandchildren John and Cristina Foutz, Nicholas Ruiz, Daniel Ripa, Eric Ripa, Sammons Corbett, Maeve Corbett, Peter C. Sammons and Conor Guinn; great grandchildren Elliana Foutz, Lincoln Foutz and Liam Ripa; Nephews Scott Sammons, Eric Sammons, and Mark Countryman, Nieces Stephanie Countryman, Stacey Countryman, and Bellanca Fletcher; great granddogs Vinnie, JoJo, Churro, Sheila and Todd. Peter was preceded in death by his best buddies Scar and Miner

    Well, Pete, we met when we were teenagers, married and brought up 4 kids, parted ways and continued for many years. You always did what you wanted and were most happy while fishing., hunting or at a bar. You lived your life like you wanted and I hope you were happy I n it. Good luck on this new venture and I am sure we will cross paths again some day. Arlene Sammons Kerans.
