Obituary

Peter G. Kramer- 1957-2020

Peter Gerald Kramer passed away peacefully at 12:30pm on Thursday, September 24, 2020 surrounded by his children and siblings at his bedside. Peter was born on February 27, 1957 in Kalamazoo Michigan to Cornelius (Neil) Kramer (deceased), Evelyn (Aafka) Kramer-Vels (deceased). Peter graduated high school at Grand Rapids South Christian, and attended 2 years of junior college in Grand Rapids Michigan at GRJC (Grand Rapids Junior College). Peter then married his first wife Connie Nault (Converse) in 1981 in Elk Rapids Michigan where he would start his family with Connie. Peter and Connie had two children, Torrie Baker (Kramer) and Kyle Kramer. Peter started his first garbage business in Elk Rapids (Ace Sanitation) in 1980. He would Later move to Charlevoix in 1984 where his children would attend School and Peter started his second business (Lakeland Leftovers). Peter was a passionate and successful business man. His charisma and welcoming character paved the way to his success. He would later marry his second wife Kay Kramer (Mason) in December of 1992. He moved to South Dakota with Kay where he would start his third and largest company, Independence Waste. Peter was a family man who left an impression on everyone  that he met. His larger than life personality was contagious, he commanded any room that he entered with his smile and energy. He loved to travel, his favorite destinations being the Netherlands, where his Dutch heritage originated, Hawaii, where his father lived for nearly 20 years, and any place with a beautiful view of the water. He loved his children very much, and made an effort to be at all of the their major life events while they grew up. He remained an active part of his children’s life, traveling back and forth to northern Michigan from South Dakota numerous times every year to be with them. Peter loved the water, he spent much of his free time boating, but also enjoyed camping, flying his small plane, riding his motorcycle, fishing with friends and family, and spending as much time with family as he could. Peter was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2011, and later Lewy Body Dementia in 2017. In late 2017, he moved to Florida where his children and his two beautiful grandchildren live on the Atlantic Coast. Peter’s dream after his business career was always to live near his grandchildren on the water. Peter relied heavily on the lord, and was by definition a man of God. He was a deacon at his church, and gave multiple testimonies about his life. He would stand and sing beautiful Christian hymns and songs to anyone who would listen. He urged everyone that he made a relationship with to follow the lord and live by the scripture. Although his disease progressed quickly, he was to able to enjoy the last few years of his life, boating, biking on the beach, and spending weekends and holidays with his children and grandchildren. Although Peter has succumb to his disease, his life and legacy will live on forever in those who succeeded him. He is survived by his two children, Torrie Baker (Kramer), Kyle (Jesse) Kramer; his Two grandchildren, Preston and Layla Kramer; his five siblings, Margaret Kramer, Mariska (Jay) Potter-Kramer, Marla (Tim) Bitzer, Paul (Jen) Kramer, and Phillip (Lindsay) Kramer; and several nieces and nephews.
