Peter Savas – “Pete” was born to Harry and Irene Savas in Yonkers, New York on June 9, 1926 and died Saturday, August 11, 2012 in Winter Park, FL with his family by his side. He joined the US Navy in 1943 and was a combat veteran having survived a kamikaze attack aboard the USS Bunker Hill (CV-17) in which almost 400 of his shipmates perished. He later served on the USS Darby until his discharge in 1947.
After the war, Pete worked as an electrician and stationary engineer in New York City and later in New Jersey. He married Eileen Abbey in 1952. They were married until her death in 2003. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather. Honest and loyal to a fault, he always put his family’s needs before his own. All who were privileged to have known him will miss him.
Pete is survived by his brother Paul, sister Freda, son Bob, daughter-in-law Andrea, grandsons Andrew and Jonathan and his great grand daughter Alivea.
